Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Roller bearings are the type of rolling-element type bearing dating back to at least 40 BC and are considered to be the earliest predecessor of modern bearing design.

Cylindrical roller bearings have very high radial load capacity. It is critical, however, to have excellent alignment of housing bores and shafts when designing machinery or performing installations. Failure to properly align these bearings will result in a short life with poor performance.

They have poor axial load capabilities. Axial loads may be tolerated to a very small degree dependent on the design selected.

Please note the three primary variants, that is: the NJ, NU and NUP designs. While all three have the roller complements locked in the outer race, the inner races differ. The NJ allows the roller assembly to move in one direction. The NU allows the rollers to shift in two directions and the NUP is a non-separable assembly.
